There are a lot of tricky marketing strategies used online, most of it
is now just considered Spam.

Basically once the blackhats have your email there is nothing you can
do. You can look at the bottom of the emails if there are
unsubscribing options but if there are none you either have to mark it
as Spam so your spam filter will throw it away automatically or get a
new email account.

I personally recommend Google Mail as there spam filter is very
effective, the software runs well, and you have tons of storage.
